Rose leads McDaniel into playoffs with 15 kills

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – McDaniel won three straight sets after dropping a 25-20 first set, defeating Washington (Md.) 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.

Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) led the Green Terror (18-5, 7-2 CC) with 15 kills against just one error, hitting .483 to lead her team to its first CC playoff appearance since 2007.

Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) added 11 kills while Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) chipped in her 15th double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs.

Kristin Lee led the Shorewomen (18-8, 4-4 CC) with 17 kills while Caitlin Cooney had 12.

After McDaniel closed within 17-16 in the first set, Washington notched three straight points to stretch the lead out to 20-16 en route to a 25-20 victory.

Seven straight points, including a pair of Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) aces, stretched a 13-10 lead into a 20-10 advantage en route to a 25-13 win that evened the match at 1-all.

A Lauren White service ace closed the third set score to 10-9 before a Rose kill sparked a 7-0 run that opened up a 17-9 lead. Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) capped the 25-16 victory with an ace.

The Green Terror closed the fourth set on a 6-2 run to wrap up the victory with a 25-19 win.

Kellen contributed 21 assists and 20 digs for McDaniel. Rose added three total blocks while Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) added four blocks.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
