Martin notches 17 kills

WESTMINSTER, Md. – York (Pa.) won three straight close sets to close out a 3-1 victory over McDaniel in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday.

Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror (2-1) on attack with 17 kills to go with six digs and four assists. Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) also reached double figures in kills with 11.

Ijeoma Igwe led the Spartans (5-0) with 15 kills while Allie Donahue contributed 40 assists to the offense.

McDaniel took the opening set 25-18 before York built a 24-17 lead in the second set, only to hold on for a 25-22 victory to even the match.

The third and fourth sets were back-and-forth with neither team opening up more than a five-point edge at any point in either set. York eventually prevailed 28-26 in the third set on back-to-back kills from Igwe.

In the final set, an Igwe kill, Katie Huston aces and attacking error gave the Spartans the match, 29-27.

Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) contributed 24 assists for the Green Terror while Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) added 13.

Emme Petti (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) added eight kills.

Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) steadied the defense with 13 digs while Alyssa Gilboy (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) added 11. Kellen chipped in eight digs and two aces.

The Green Terror returns to action at Hood on Friday. Match time is 7 p.m.
