ABINGTON, Pa. – McDaniel rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Immaculata in five sets before topping Penn State-Abington 3-0 to open the 2013 volleyball season on Saturday.
In the first match against the Mighty Macs (1-1), Immaculata won the final two points for a 25-23 win in the opening set. The Green Terror (2-0) responded with a 25-15 victory in the second set before the Mighty Macs registered a 25-18 set-three win. McDaniel cruised to a 25-13 victory in the fourth set before a pair of Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) aces keyed a 3-0 finish to a 15-10 win in the deciding set.
The second match of the day had less drama for the Green Terror, who defeated the Lions (0-3) in three sets, 25-14, 25-16, 25-14.
Martin finished the day with 15 kills and 19 digs, including a 10-kill, 14-dig double-double performance in the opening match. She added three aces and four blocks.
Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) chipped in 55 assists, 17 digs and 10 kills. She registered a team-high 16 digs to go with 31 assists and six kills in the five-set win before recording 24 assists and four kills against Abington.
Against Immaculata, freshman Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) led the attack with 12 kills while classmate Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) contributed 10 kills and two blocks.
Haley Duff (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) and Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) added 15 digs apiece to the defense. Weger also contributed five aces while Olivia Kunc (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) added three.
Against the Lions, Emme Petti (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) led the attack with seven kills while Rose and Savin joined Martin with five kills. Alyssa Gilboy (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) led the defense with 21 digs while Weger added 13. Savin added five total blocks while Rose had three and Kellen had two.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against York (Pa.) on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
