CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) rallied to win three straight close sets after dropping a 25-23 opening set, defeating McDaniel 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) led the Green Terror (7-21, 0-10 CC) in her final collegiate match, recording 17 kills, nine digs, three aces and three total blocks.
Jess Daunoras paced the Shorewomen (12-15, 4-6 CC) on attack with 13 kills. Kate Liccione steadied the defense with 21 digs.
Tied at 21-all in the first set, Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) recorded three of her match-high 18 kills and McShea finished off a 25-23 win.
Tied at 16-all, a a Liccione ace keyed a 4-0 run that gave Washington a 20-16 lead en route to a 25-20 victory.
The third set featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes. McDaniel built a lead of as three but four straight attacking error allowed the Shorewomen to take a 13-12 lead and neither team led by more than two the rest of the way before Kristin Lee put down one of her 12 kills to give her team a 25-23 win.
Washington built a 16-12 lead in set No. 4 before a pair of Martin kills contributed to a 6-1 burst that gave the Green Terror a one-point lead.
The Shorewomen tallied the next three points en route to a 25-21 victory.
Martin added 16 digs to her 18 kills to give her 250 kills and 302 digs during her rookie campaign.
Freshman Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) added season bests of 38 assists and 23 digs. She finished her rookie year with 640 assists, which is 10th all-time in a single season.
Olivia Kunc (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) added 19 digs.
