McShea records double-double
WESTMINSTER, Md. – With the match tied at 1-all, Swarthmore scored the first seven points of the third set to key a 3-1 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) led the Green Terror (5-18, 0-7 CC) with a double-double, recording 14 kills and 15 digs. Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) finished a kill shy of her 10th double-double with nine kills and 16 digs.
Kathryn Montemurror led the Garnet (14-4, 5-2 CC) with 16 kills and 15 digs. Danielle Sullivan added 14 kills and a match-high 23 digs.
Two Montemurro kills and an Allison Coleman ace keyed the 7-0 open to the third set en route to a 25-10 win.
Martin opened the fourth set with an ace before Swarthmore reeled off the next seven points to take a 7-1 lead en route to a 25-17 victory that secured the match.
In a first set that featured nine ties and five lead changes, Kate Amodei ace knotted the set for the final time at 17-all before an attacking error gave McDaniel the lead.
McShea followed with kills on two of the next three points to take a 20-18 lead. Melissa Weldon (Broomall, Pa./Country Day School of the Sacred Heart) and Martin added back-to-back kills to stretch the lead to four and force a timeout.
Martin pushed the lead to 24-20 before McShea closed out the set with a kill to take a 1-0 lead in the match, 25-21.
Martin tied the second set at 6-all with a kill before Swarthmore put together an 8-3 run to take a 14-8 lead en route to a 25-14 victory.
Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) finished with 30 assists and 15 digs while Weldon added 11 digs.
McDaniel returns to action at Gettysburg on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
