HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford scored the final nine points of the first set as part of a 3-0 Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball win over McDaniel on Wednesday.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror (5-17, 0-6 CC) with team highs of 10 kills and 18 digs.
Meg O'Day recorded 15 kills to lead the attack for the Fords (14-5, 5-1 CC), who kept pace for the top spot in the CC with their victory. Nina Mutty steadied the defense for the hosts with 17 digs.
Tied for the seventh time at 16-all on a Julia Wainwright (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) kill, O'Day responded with a kill of her own and then took the serve, igniting a 9-0 run to close out a 25-16 victory.
Two more O'Day kills and a Madison Fuelling ace continued the run into the second set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead en route to a 25-17 victory.
A Bryanna Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) kill drew the visitors within 9-7 but they could get no closer.
Trailing 3-2 in the final set, the Fords scored four straight points behind Jordan Scolaro's serving en route to a 25-17 win.
Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) added nine kills to the McDaniel attack while Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) contributed 19 assists and 11 digs. McShea added 13 digs and two blocks on the defensive side.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
