McDaniel opens 2011 season at Gettysburg Battlefield Classic

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Melissa Weldon (Broomall, Pa./Country Day School of the Sacred Heart) recorded 18 kills and 19 digs to lead McDaniel at the 2011 Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg in non-conference volleyball action on Friday and Saturday.

The Green Terror (0-4) dropped its opener to Penn State-Mont Alto, 3-2. McDaniel took the first set 25-22 before the Lions evened the match with a 25-20 victory. The Green Terror went back in front with a 25-23 win in the third set before Mont Alto forced the deciding set with a 26-24 win. The Lions won the deciding set, 18-16.

In McDaniel's second match of the opening day, Scranton took the opening set 25-11 before the Green Terror evened the match with a 25-21 win. The Royals finished off the 3-1 win with victories of 25-6 and 25-11.

On Saturday, Gallaudet downed McDaniel 3-0 (25-6, 25-6, 25-9) before the Green Terror fell to Penn State-Altoona, 3-0 (25-9, 25-4, 25-10).

Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) added 16 kills, 17 assists and 25 digs in the four matches.

Hannah Krobock (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) chipped in 14 kills on the offense while added 12 digs to the defense.

Brooke Sillaman (Crofton, Md./Arundel) contributed 30 assists, 26 digs and a team-best six aces in three matches.

McDaniel returns to action in the home opener against Stevenson on Thursday. Match time is 7 p.m.
