Nuckles leads Green Terror to two more sweeps on Sunday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Kristen Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) recorded 27 assists, 18 digs and six aces to lead McDaniel to a 2-0 day at the 2009 Panther Invitational hosted by SUNY Old Westbury in non-conference volleyball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (5-3) went 4-0 with four sweeps on the weekend to win the tournament, including 3-0 victories over the host Panthers (2-6) and King's (7-3) on day two.

In the day's opening match against Old Westbury, McDaniel took the first set 25-12 before completing its third straight sweep 25-16 and 25-12, respectively.

Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) led the attack with a season-best 16 kills to go with six total blocks. Nuckles added 17 assists and 11 digs.

Jackie Hawkins (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added 11 assists, seven digs and three aces.

Against King's, the Green Terror took the opening two sets 25-15 and 25-19, respectively, before cruising to the sweep with a 25-8 win in set three.

Nuckles, Anne McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Sara Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) each recorded seven kills while Herrgott notched six.

Hawkins and Nuckles registered 11 and 10 assists, respectively, while Nuckles added six aces. McShea chipped in 12 digs to steady the defense.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Frostburg on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
