Dickinson downs McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kristen Lee recorded a match-high 25 kills to lead Dickinson to a 3-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.

The Red Devils (9-10, 4-1 CC) won the first two sets by two points each – 27-25 and 25-23, respectively – before the Green Terror (9-14, 2-3 CC) took the third set, 25-15. Dickinson closed out the match with the final five points of the fourth set to win, 25-21.
Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) led McDaniel with 20 kills while Sara Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) notched 15. Kristen Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) added 24 assists to the offense while Katie Ferguson (Dover, Pa./Northern York) led five players in double-figure digs with 21.
After the Red Devils had opened up a 13-9 lead in the first set, the Green Terror clawed back to even the match at 14 before eventually taking an 18-15 lead.
Trailing 22-20, a Lee kill and one of Amanda Hayes’ five aces evened the set at 22-all. The two teams traded points before back-to-back Lee kills gave Dickinson a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Green Terror used a 5-0 run in the second set to turn an 8-all deadlock into a 13-8 lead before three Chelsea Winkert kills keyed a 12-7 run that knotted the set at 20.
Three kills from Lee and two from Elly Gosheva over the last nine points secured another two-point victory for the visitors.
Five Herrgott kills in first 10 McDaniel points of the third set helped the hosts open a 10-3 advantage and the Red Devils got no closer the rest of the way.
Trailing 17-11, four Hanlon kills and a pair of knockdowns from Lanni Reisinger (Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and Hanlon contributed to a 10-3 rally that gave the Green Terror a 21-20 lead.
However, a pair of Lauren Yura aces – her only two of the match – capped a match-ending 5-0 run.
Hanlon added four total blocks while Herrgott had two. Nuckles (16), Jenna Filipone (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) (14), Reisinger (13) and Kristie Fourcade (Ijamsville, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) (12) each reached double figures in the dig column.
