WESTMINSTER, Md. – Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick), a senior on the McDaniel women's cross and field and track and field teams, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II Division III cross country/track and field first team on Thursday.
Kaler earned her first nod to the team with a 3.96 GPA as of the end of the fall semester. Kaler was one of 11 players selected to the first team. The history major now advances to the national ballot with all of the first-team selections from the eight districts for the Academic All-America team, which will be released on June 24.
As a member of the cross country team, Kaler was the top finisher for the Green Terror in all but one race in which she competed over the last two seasons.
On the track, she ranks in the top six all-time on the indoor performer lists for the 1,000, mile, 3,000, 5,000 and 4x800 relay. She is also in the top six all-time outdoor for the 3,000 and 5,000. She was also part of the 4x800 relay, which ran a program-record time of 9:49.82 at the 2014 Centennial Conference (CC) Championship.
A nine-time CC Academic Honor Roll selection and seven-time Dean's List honoree, Kaler was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa this spring.
The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) select the All-District team. District II consists of all of the Division III colleges and universities in Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
To be nominated for the Capital One Academic All-America program presented by CoSIDA, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
