Five athletes compete for McDaniel at CC Championships

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Kelsey Dickman (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) earned a bronze medal in the shot put to lead McDaniel to a 10th-place finish at the 2011 Centennial Conference (CC) women's outdoor track and field championship hosted by Muhlenberg on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Green Terror, behind just five athletes healthy and available for the conference championship weekend, netted 18 points on the weekend. Johns Hopkins won its second straight title with 202 points, easily outdistancing second-place Ursinus (135.5).

Dickman threw 11.31 meters in the shot put to earn the lone medal of the lot for McDaniel. She was also 14th in the discus (25.75) and 18th in the javelin (20.72).

Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) just missed a medal and breaking 60 seconds for the first time in the 400. The senior crossed fourth in the finals with a time of 1:00.11. She was also 15th in the 200 (27.59).

Katie Corson (Ocean View, Md./Ocean City) recorded a fifth-, sixth- and 10th-place finishes. She was fifth in the heptathlon (3,466 points) in her first time officially competing in the event. She was also sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:09.08) and 10th in the long jump (4.83 meters).

In the heptathlon, Corson finished first in both running events. She crossed with a time of 26.90 in the 200 and 2:29.89 in the 800. She was fifth in the hurdles and jumps and seventh in both throws.

Emily Peoples (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) finished 17th in the 5,000 (19:25.78) and 23rd in the 10,000 (41:54.85).     

Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington) finished 17th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:24.25).

The Green Terror returns to action at the Kehoe Twilight Meet hosted by Maryland on Thursday.
