Eight McDaniel athletes compete at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) finished third in the 400 to lead McDaniel to a 12th-place finish at the 2011 Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by Gettysburg in women's outdoor track and field action on Saturday.

The Green Terror combined to score six points with just eight athletes competing in one event each on a day filled with rain and wind, both of which were heavy at times.

Gettysburg won the team title with 85 points.

Garnett turned in a time of 1:01.91 to finish third in the 400.

Five athletes competed in the mile for McDaniel. Emily Peoples (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) led the quintet with a ninth-place showing, crossing in a time of 5:44.25.

Joy Chand (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) crossed 21st (6:17.21) while Lauren Murray was 29th (6:51.88).

Phoebe McHale (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and Forest Fleischer (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) rounded out the group in 32nd (7:02.68) and 33rd (7:19.45), respectively.

Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Kelsey Dickman (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) threw the shot put, finishing ninth (8.46 meters) and 12th (7.72), respectively.

The Green Terror returns to action at its second home twilight meet on Wednesday. Action begins at 4 p.m.
