Women third, men sixth at Mason-Dixon

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) won her second 400 meters this season to lead McDaniel to a third-place finish at the 2009 Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by Gettysburg in women’s track and field action on Saturday.

            Behind Garnett’s personal-best time of 1:01.28, the Green Terror finished with 78 points. Gettysburg won the team title with 225 points while Frostburg was second with 161 points.
            On the men’s side, McDaniel finished seventh (64). The Bullets also won to complete the sweep of their own meet, finishing with 235 points.
            The 4x400-meter relay team finished second with a time of 4:35.80 while Roxanne Fleischer (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Heidi Davidhizar rounded out the top-three finisher on the women’s side. Fleischer was third in the 10,000 (46.10.94) while Davidhizar was third in the 100 hurdles (17.10).
            Kristin Duling (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Lauren DiNatale (Auburn, N.H./Manchester Memorial) added fourth-place finishes in the 200 (25.78) and 1,500 (6:06.77), respectively.
            On the men’s side, Rob Kelvey (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led the way with a second-place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing in a time of 10:10.41 – the fourth-fastest time in program history.
            Juris Eyler (Middletown, Md./Middletown) added a personal-best time of 51.23 seconds in the 400 to place third.
            Cody Crutchley (Frederick, Md./Gov/. Thomas Johnson) also finished third in the 800 (2:02.07) while CJ Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) was fourth in the same event (2:02.90).
            Naper was also fourth in the steeplechase (10:19.45) and ran the lead-off leg of the 4x400-meter relay, which finished sixth with a season-best time of 3:36.69.
            McDaniel returns to action at the Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg on Saturday.
