Wilson mines silver
McDaniel finishes eighth behind five top-fives
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Lindsay Wilson (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) collected a pair of silver medals to lead McDaniel to an eighth-place finish at the 2011 Centennial Conference (CC) women's indoor track and field championships hosted by Haverford on Saturday.
As a team, the Green Terror finished eighth with 37 points. Johns Hopkins won the 10-team meet with 140 points, outdistancing Haveford by six points.
Wilson bettered her own program record in the mile, covering the distance in a time of 5:10.14 to earn the team's first medal in the event. Later in the meet, Wilson missed a second record by 0.44 seconds but did add a second silver medal. She was second with a time of 10:113.78, using a strong kick to close a significant gap and finish 1.15 seconds behind race-winner Christina Valerio (Johns Hopkins).
Wilson also teamed with Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City), Jasmine Scott (Derwood, Md./Bullis) and Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) to turn in the third-fastest 4x400-meter relay time, finishing sixth at the meet with a time of 4:15.52.
Scott finished just outside of the hardware in both of her individual events. She finished fourth in the 55 finals, running a season-best time of 7.46 seconds from the slower finals section after a seventh-best 7.62 seconds in the prelims.
Scott was sixth in the 200 with a time of 27.21.
Scott, Corson and Garnett joined Sarah Byron (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) for a fourth-place showing in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:50.77 – the sixth-best time in program history.
Corson was 10th in the 400 (1:02.40) while Byron tied for 14th in the 55 prelims (7.83).
Emily Peoples (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) crossed 13th overall in the 5,000 meter with a personal-best time of 19:07.10 – a time which is fifth on the all-time list.
Missy Black (West Grove, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished 15th in the mile (5:37.63) and joined Peoples, Laura Shinn (Weehawkin, N.J./Pennington) and Joy Chand (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) to finish eighth in the 4x800 relay (10:44.68).
Kelsey Dickman (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) led the way in the field events with a fifth-place finish in the shot put (11.28 meters).
Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was 15th in the same event with a toss of 9.35 meters.
The Green Terror opens the outdoor season at the Battleground Relays hosted by Mary Washington on Mar. 19.
