Penhallegan wins twice in victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel swept doubles en route to an 8-1 win over Notre Dame (Md.) in non-conference women's tennis action on Thursday.

Laura Penhallegan (Glen Arm, Md./Loch Raven) led the Green Terror (1-8) with two wins on the day. She and Brenna Gutshall (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) teamed for an 8-1 win at second doubles. Penhallegan then won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Davida Rogers led the Gators (1-5) with a 6-3, 6-0 win at fifth singles.

Gutshall rounded out a 2-0 day with a 6-3, 6-1 win at third singles.

Maddy Simmons (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Lindsay Russell (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) partnered for an 8-0 win at No. 1 singles before each completed a two-win day with singles victories. Simmons won at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0 while Russell took No. 2 by a 6-0, 6-1 score.

Reaiah Rutherford (Old Lyme, Conn./Metropolitan Business Academy and Educational Center for the Arts) also won twice. She and CeCe Galovic (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) won 8-5 at third doubles before Rutherford took a 6-1, 6-0 win at sixth singles.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
