Swarthmore opens conference slate with sweep of McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Luann Cignavitch went 2-0 without dropping a game to lead Swarthmore to a 9-0 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Garnet (2-4, 1-0 CC) did not drop a game in the two contested singles matches and won all five contested singles matches in straight sets.

Carissa Grove (Boonsboro, Md./St. Maria Goretti) won seven games for the Green Terror (0-5, 0-1 CC), including forcing the first set of her No. 4 singles match to 7-5.

Cignavitch partnered with Kelsey Johnson for an 8-0 win at first doubles before taking No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Alexis Hickman teamed with Rosie DeBrin for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles before rounding out a 2-0 day with the victory at fourth singles, 7-5, 6-2.

Brooke Wilkins rounded out double winners for Swarthmore, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.

McDaniel returns to action at Wesley on Sunday. Match time is 12 p.m.
