Knadler records three wins in CC-opening victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel won seven of the 11 events to key a 61-34 victory over Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming opener for both teams on Saturday.

Sydney Knadler (Crowley Lake, Calif./Mammoth) won three wins to lead the Green Terror (1-1, 1-0 CC), who defeated the Garnet (1-1, 0-1 CC) in a dual meet for the first time since 1982 to snap a 24-meet losing streak.

Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) also added three wins, including as part of both relay wins for McDaniel.

Four different Swarthmore swimmers earned individual victories. Briana Schoenck won the 200 free (2:03.67), Nikkia Miller won the 50 free (25.27), Abby Byrne touched first in the 100 butterfly (1:03.77) and Eva Winter was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.39).

Knadler recorded individual wins for the Green Terror in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle. Her winning times of 2:19.18 in the IM and 55.74 in the free both rank ninth on the program's all-time list.

Knadler also swam leadoff of the 200 free relay that finished with a time of 1:42.22, ranking fourth all-time. Duesterhaus, Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) and Emily Gross (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) joined Knadler on the relay.

Duesterhaus led off the meet as the leadoff leg in the 200 medley relay, joining Kelly Lewis (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mills), Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Holmes to swim a time of 1:52.80.

Duesterhaus was also victorious in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.25.

Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) added the other two wins for McDaniel, touching first in the 1000 (11:17.45) and 500 (5:35.06) freestyles.

Holmes was also second in the 50 free (25.66) while Gross was third in the race (26.78).

Lewis finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.41, knocking 0.47 seconds off her seventh-place all-time time.

Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) was second in the 200 free with a time of 2:04.43.

Juliann Rossi (Marriottsville, Md./McDonogh) added a second-place showing in the 100 butterfly (1:04.65) and third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.80).

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Meet time is 7 p.m.
