Duesterhaus wins twice in opener

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Mount St. Mary's won nine of the 11 events to key a 59-36 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's swimming action on Saturday.

Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) won twice of the Green Terror (0-1) in the season opener, including as part of the pool-record 200 medley relay.

Amanda Moore and Erin Regan each registered three wins for the Division I Mounties (1-1), who set a pool record at the other end of the meet with Moore and Regan as half of the 200 free relay.

Duesterhaus led off the 200 medley relay, joining Kelly Lewis (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mills), Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) to turn in a time of 1:51.73 to break the old Harlow Pool record by nearly two seconds. It was also the second fastest time in program history.

Duesterhaus added an individual win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.71, winning the event by 2.33 seconds over Vanscoy.

Moore won the 200 free (1:57.58) and 100 butterfly (1:01.09) individually for Mt. St. Mary's while Regan touched first in the 200 IM (2:12.45) and 500 free (5:21.39).

The duo joined Lenna Castro and Mollie Walsh to win the 200 free relay in pool-record time of 1:40.03, outdistancing McDaniel by more than five seconds.

Walsh also added an individual win in the 50 free with a time of 24.93 seconds.

Lewis added a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in her McDaniel debut, finishing in a time of 1:11.88 to immediately move into seventh place on the program's all-time list. Juliann Rossi (Marriottsville, Md./McDonogh) also notched a top-10 finish in the event, finishing with a time of 1:13.27 swimming exhibition.

Holmes added a second-place finish, touching in a time of 25.69 seconds in the 50 free.

Shannon McClellan (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) added two second-place showings in the distance races, finishing the 1000 free in a time of 11:33.01 and the 500 free in a time of 5:37.77.

The Green Terror opens the Centennial Conference schedule at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Meet time is 2 p.m.
