Duesterhaus, Vanscoy notch three victories
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg won five of the first nine contested events to defeat McDaniel 105-79 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Wednesday.
Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) notched three victories for the Green Terror (1-3, 0-2 CC), who finished the night with five wins.
Cooper Kearns paced the Bullets (4-0, 2-0 CC) with two wins, taking the 200 free (2:03.50) and 500 free (5:21.92).
Duesterhaus opened the meet, leading off the 400 medley relay. She joined Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life), Kerrie Vanscoy (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Caroline Sussman (Washington, D.C./Spring Ridge) to stake McDaniel to an 11-6 lead after one event with a time of 4:10.68, registering the third-fastest relay time in program history.
Duesterhaus went on to record individual wins in the 50 free with a time of 25.82 seconds and 100 free with a time of 56.57.
Vanscoy added an individual win among her three-victory night, touching first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.87. The time was good enough for seventh on the all-time list.
She was also part of the 400 free relay, which recorded a win to close the night in a time of 3:57.72. Emily Gross (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion), Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Kerrin Holmes (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) joined Vanscoy on the relay.
The Green Terror's C-relay, which competed the event as exhibition, finished with a faster time. Elisa Santoni (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron), Sarah Blonder (Baltimore, Md./Western), Delaney Firer (Richmond, Va./Douglas S. Freeman) and Elyse Hyle (Phoenix, Md./Hereford) combined to register a time of 3:56.49.
Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) and Jenny Grillo (Mt. Airy, Md./TLCI) finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 400 IM. Grillo's time of 4:59.46 moved her into eighth place on the all-time list. Jacobs touched in a time of 4:55.66.
Grillo was also third in the 100 backstroke (1:05.90) while Jacobs was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.13), which ranks 10th on the program's all-time list.
The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Meet time is 1 p.m.
