McDaniel recognized for academics

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America recently released its Team Scholar All-American list for the Fall 2011 semester and McDaniel was among the Division III teams recognized.

The Green Terror was once again highly successful in the classroom, posting a collective team grade-point average of 3.45.

McDaniel was one of 131 programs in the country recognized for having a team GPA of 3.0 or better, ranking tied for 16th on the list that included three Centennial Conference (CC) teams. The Green Terror was the highest ranking team among those from the conference on the list.

The academic honors capped a banner week for the program, which recorded 380.5 points at the CC championship meet over the weekend for its highest point total in the 19-year history of the championship.

Rachel Walega (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) won the 100 breaststroke to earn first-team All-CC honors while four Green Terror swimmers were tabbed honorable mention for their silver-medal performances.

Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) and Walega finished second in both the 200 and 400 medley relays while Duesterhaus took silver in the 50 free and 100 backstroke.
