WESTMINSTER, Md. – Three different McDaniel players scored in the first half of a 3-0 win over York (Pa.) in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday.
Allie Titus (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) scored the middle of those markers for the 16th-ranked Green Terror (2-1), who posted its second straight shutout.
Jess Wieber led the Spartans (0-3) with four saves in the first 57 minutes of play. Sydney Kahn had one save in the final 33 mintues.
Carrying play for a first half in which McDaniel outshot its guest 11-0, Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damascus) was the first to break through. Paola Rosa (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) sent a ball from the center of the field to the right wing, where Kirschenmann blasted the shot just under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead just 7:20 into the game.
Titus finished from the top of the box after Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) took the ball away from a defender and played it quickly to the left for Titus to finish in the 25th minute.
Freshman Maddie Schwartz (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) recorded her first collegiate tally just 2:46 later. Off an Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) corner kick, Marissa Funke (Kings Park, N.Y./Smithtown West) knocked the ball off the back post back in front of the net, where Schwartz was able to clean it up.
The Green Terror finished with a 16-2 advantage in shots and 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Albright on Saturday. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
