McDaniel opens preseason 16th in poll

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel opens the 2017 season ranked in 16th in the United Soccer Coaches preseason top 25 poll.

The Green Terror (18-3-1) finished the 2016 season with a program-record 18 wins and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Div. III tournament. McDaniel also played in the Centennial Conference (CC) championship game for the first time in program history before winning a pair of home games in the NCAA tournament.

McDaniel is coming off a 18-3-1 (8-0-1 CC), increasing its win total each of the last three seasons.

Senior Katie Kirschennman (Damascus, Md./Damascus) returns after leading the team with 11 goals and 25 points in 2016. Junior Kirsten Gibson (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and senior Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) added six and five goals, respectively, a year ago.

Senior Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), a second-team All-American in 2016, went 16-3-1 in goal, posting a 0.67 goals-against average and .843 save percentage. The defense shut out its opposition in 13 of its 22 games last season.

The Green Terror opens the season against No. 4 William Smith at the Salisbury University Classic on Friday, Sept. 1. Game time is 4 p.m.
