ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – McDaniel tallied a pair of goals in each half to notch a 4-2 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) in the women's soccer season opener for both teams on Thursday.
Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the Green Terror (1-0) to its fifth straight season-opening win with two second half goals.
Gabby Encarnacion led the Seahawks (0-1) with a goal and an assist.
Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) opened the scoring just 14:02 into the season, dribbling past her defender and finding the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Abby Keen (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) doubled the edge just over seven minutes later directly off a corner kick.
Encarnacion put back a Lauren Hall shot-and-save to draw the hosts within one just 6:15 into the second half.
Kirschenmann finished a Hill cross in the 61st minute to stretch the lead back to two before Encarnacion found Gillian Sawyer just 90 seconds later to once again make it a one-goal game.
Kirshenmann knocked in her second of the game off the crossbar with just eight minutes left to set the final margin.
Each team finished with nine shots but preseason-No. 25 McDaniel had a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Katie Flores had three saves apiece in goal.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Catholic on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
