WESTMINSTER, Md. – York (Pa.) scored 38 seconds into the game en route to a 4-2 win over McDaniel in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Julia Pope (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) tallied both goals for the Green Terror (3-1), who allowed its first goals of the season in its first loss.
Four different players scored for the Spartans (3-2), including Beth Bunn who tallied a goal and an assist.
In the game's first minute, Taylor Folk played a ball through the defense that Jordan Neiheiser poked by a diving McDaniel keeper to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead.
Just over 10 minutes later, Bunn played a ball from the right baseline to Jamie Sokolis, who finished for a 2-0 advantage.
Neiheiser had another opportunity three minutes later but Chloe Allen-Gorman (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) made a flying back save to kick the ball clear just before it crossed the line.
The Green Terror carried play for much of the remainder of the first half, including finishing in the 28th minute to cut the deficit in half.
Off a corner kick, Allie Sokolik (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) blasted a shot that was saved directly to Pope, who was waiting on the back post to finish.
Bunn collected a rebound of her own and rocketed a shot from the top of the box that found its way through the defense, giving York a 3-1 lead in the 55th minute.
Kayla Kovalsky finished from about 30 yards out in the 74th minute to push the lead to 4-1 before Pope knocked a goal kick down to herself and dribbled in to score her fourth of the season.
The Spartans finished with an 18-13 advantage in shots.
The Green Terror opens the Centennial Conference schedule at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m.
