Pope converts late PK
TOWSON, Md. – It took until the 62nd minute for anyone to find the back of the net but then Goucher did twice in a four-minute span to key a 2-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over McDaniel on Wednesday.
For the second straight game, the Green Terror (1-5) converted a penalty kick. This time it was Julia Pope (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) who hit late in a game.
Shay Kettner recorded a goal and an assist for the Gophers (4-3), who finished with an advantage of 19-8 in shots.
Lindsey Puopolo played a ball through the defense that Kettner slotted into the side netting for a 1-0 lead at the 61:43 mark.
Just 3:41 later, Ketter crossed the ball off a defender to Kristen Gartside, who finished for the 2-0 advantage.
After a card in the box, Pope hit the penalty kick to make it 2-1 but McDaniel could not get off another shot the rest of the way.
Jan Woolley (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) made six saves in goal for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Stevenson on Thursday. Game time is 4 p.m.
