St. Mary's takes down McDaniel in opener
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – St. Mary's (Md.) held an 11-1 advantage in shots in the first half to help build a 2-0 halftime lead en route to a 5-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over McDaniel in the season opener for both teams on Friday.
Julia Pope (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) took two of the four shots that were on cage for the Green Terror (0-1), who were outshot 17-9 in the contest.
Five different players scored for the Seahawks (1-0) while seven tallied a point in the contest.
Yvonne Latour and Bridget McGovern tallied unassisted markers in the first half for the 2-0 advantage at intermission. Latour scored in the 24th minute while McGovern found the back of the net in the 33rd.
Johanna Rambo tallied off a feed from Colleen McDougall in the 58th minute before Tori Eskay and Liza Sitz scored just over eight minutes apart to set the final margin with 12:13 to play.
Hilary Hanus (Hockessin, Del./Cab Calloway School of the Arts) and Erica Diffendal (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) joined Pope with two shots apiece.
McDaniel's Jan Woolley (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and St. Mary's Kelsey Wirtz each made four saves in net.
The Green Terror returns to action in the home opener on Wednesday against Stevenson. Game time is 4 p.m.
