Columbo lifts No. 17 Swarthmore late
Garnet tally with 10:30 left to break deadlock with McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Megan Colombo broke a 1-all deadlock with 10:30 showing to lift 17th-ranked Swarthmore to a 2-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.
Jessica Peyton (Middletown, Md./Middletown) drew the Green Terror (2-7, 1-2 CC) in the 77th minute but the Garnet (9-2, 3-1 CC) had the answer fewer than three minutes later.
After Peyton's goal off a mishandle by the Swarthmore keeper with 13:29 to play, Colombo put a shot off the McDaniel keeper and defender for the game-winner.
Elizabeth Mills tapped home a Kirsten Peterson pass that went by the keeper for a 1-0 Garnet lead at the 34:09 mark.
Swarthmore finished with advantages of 23-8 and 12-3 in shots and corner kicks, respectively.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made 11 saves for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at Goucher on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
