Bishop goes 3-0 at 165

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel closed out its Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling dual-meet season at home on Saturday.

The Green Terror (4-9, 0-7 CC) dropped its three matches, falling to Muhlenberg 24-15 before dropping a 39-9 decision to Ursinus and 30-15 match to Merchant Marine.

Wade Bishop (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) led McDaniel with three wins at 165.

Against the Mules (7-8, 2-5 CC), Jake Reid (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Henderson) opened with a 3-mintue, 35-second fall at 125 before Austin Sherman countered with a second-period pin of his own to knot the match at 6-all.

That sparked a run of four straight wins for Muhlenberg to open up a 17-6 lead, capped by Ben Peck needing a takedown and near fall late in the third period for a 16-12 win.

Bishop edged out a 10-9 win at 165 to close the deficit to 17-9 before Dylan Schwartz used a 14-4 win to stretch the lead to 21-9.

Ronnie Wuest (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) won 6-5 at 184 but Gennaro Cerminara took a 7-1 win at 197 to seal the victory.

Brendan Woody (Crofton, Md./South River) closed the match with a 9-6 win at heavyweight.

The Bears (6-6, 1-6 CC) won four of the first five bouts to open up an 18-6 lead.

Raymond Calderio keyed the start with a 1-minute, 9-second pin at 133. Scott Miser (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) notched the lone win for the Green Terror, taking a 3-minute, 33-second pin at 149.

A Bishop 11-6 win at 165 closed the deficit to 18-9 but Ursinus won the last four bouts, including three by fall.

The Mariners (8-7, 4-3 CC) won seven bouts against McDaniel to close out a 2-2 day, wrestling the final bout across two mats.

Reid notched a 1-minute, 18-second pin at 125 before Tyler Craig countered with a pin just before the first period ended to tie the match at 6-all.

Bishop, meanwhile, took an 11-4 win at 165 on the other mat to put the Green Terror in front, 9-6.

Merchant Marine won the next six bouts across the two mats, including a pin by Kieran Duggan in 4:04 at 157 to secure the win.

Woody closed out the day with a 65-second pin at heavyeight.

McDaniel returns to action at the CC Championship hosted by Washington and Lee on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m.
