Woody wins twice in split

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel topped Southern Virginia 30-6 before falling to Wilkes 25-12 to split a non-conference trimatch in wrestling action on Saturday.

Brendan Woody (Crofton, Md./South River) led the Green Terror (3-2) as one of three wrestlers to go 2-0 with a pin on the day.

Against the Knights (2-2), Jake Reid (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Henderson) led off with a 9-0 win at 125 before Ryker Eckenbarger (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) recorded a first-period pin for a 10-0 lead.

Jahmally Willie (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) and Scott Miser (Abington, Md./Bel Air) added wins of 16-12 and 11-4, respectively, to push the lead to 16-0.

A Cole Nagle (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) 1-minute, 24-second fall at 157 stretched the lead to 22-0 before Matthew Rohrdanz won 11-4 at 165 and Keaton Gomez tallied a 9-7 win at 174 for Southern Virginia's first points.

Ronald Mattox (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) won 9-5 at 184 and Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) notched an 11-5 victory at 197 for a 28-6 lead. Woody rounded out the match with a 15-7 win at heavyweight.

The Colonels (5-6) won seven of the first eight bouts to take a 25-3 lead and round out a 2-0 day.

Kyle Trout won 9-4 at 125 before Eckenbarger evened the match score with a 6-2 win at 133.

A Matthew Grossman 6-4 victory at 141 started a five-bout winning streak for Wilkes. Kyle Medrow had the big win during the run with a second-period technical fall.

Pooton and Woody rounded out the day with wins for McDaniel. Pooton won 7-3 at 197 before Woody notched a 6-minute, 24-second fall.

The Green Terror returns to action in a trimatch at Greensboro with Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, Dec. 16. Action begins at 6 p.m.
