CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The NCAA released its brackets for the 2014 NCAA Division III wrestling championships and McDaniel's Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) earned the second seed at 133.
Competition will begin at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Friday at 11 a.m. CDT and continue through Saturday.
O'Boyle enters the championship at 28-1, earning the national bid after winning both the Centennial Conference (CC) and NCAA Div. III East Regional titles. It is the sophomore's second appearance at the national meet.
He was also named the CC's Wrestler of the Year.
The No. 2 seed marks the highest seeding by any Green Terror wrestler. As a freshman, he won one match as the eighth seed at the national tournament but fell one victory shy of All-America status.
O'Boyle will open his weekend with a first-round bye before facing Colin McDermitt (Heidelburg) in the second round.
If O'Boyle advances to Saturday's competition, he would be guaranteed a finish of no worse than eighth place and would garner his first All-America honors, becoming just the ninth different Green Terror wrestler to garner the accolades.
