Avino notches pin to wrap conference slate
BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins won four of the first five bouts to open up an 18-3 lead en route to a 24-18 Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling victory over McDaniel on Wednesday.
Taylor Avino (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) led the Green Terror (8-11, 3-5 CC) with a 59-second pin at heavyweight to wrap up the conference dual-meet slate.
Jared Forman paced the Blue Jays (10-5, 7-1 CC) with a 1-minute, 27-second pin at 174.
After Paul Bewak took a forfeit at 125 to stake Johns Hopkins to a 6-0 lead, Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) recorded two first-period takedowns to notch a 5-2 victory at 133 and cut the deficit in half.
Henry Stauber recorded a second-period technical fall at 141 to start a three-bout winning streak that stretched the lead to 18-3.
Luke Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) got a late reversal to earn a 2-1 victory at 165 before the Forman pin forced nothing worse than a tie for Johns Hopkins.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Messiah on Tuesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
