COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) went 3-1 with three pins to lead McDaniel to a 1-3 day at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (5-6) opened the day by dropping a 28-21 decision to SUNY Oneonta before topping Elizabethtown, 40-14. WPI downed McDaniel 33-15 in the day's third round before No. 24 Delaware Valley closed out the day with a 42-6 victory over the Green Terror.
Against the Red Dragons (6-6), O'Boyle notched a 4-minute, 30-second fall at 133 to even the match at 6-all after two bouts. A 3-2 Ben Mikac win at 141 followed by an 8-4 victory by Goretsas at 149 kept the match level before Oneonta reeled off three straight wins to open up a 22-9 advantage.
Nick Cross (Centreville, Md./Queen Annes County) broke up the run with a fall in 1:45 to close the margin to 22-15 but Chad Obzud sealed the match with a first-period pin at 197.
Avino rounded out the match with a 4-minute, 3-second pin at heavyweight.
Against the Blue Jays (2-8), O'Boyle once again evened the match after two bouts with a fall, winning in 1:58. After a 15-7 Mike Lammer win at 11, Goretsas won by fall just before the second period ended to give McDaniel a 12-10 lead.
Erik Meyer (Fallston, Md./Archbishop Curley) stretched that lead to 18-10 with a pin in 2:16 before Ezekial Zimmer took a 9-1 major decision at 165 to pull Elizabethtown within 18-14.
Against WPI (4-5), O'Boyle recorded a 1-minute, 58-second pin to even the score at 6-all before Tyler Tilbe and Mike Perruccio each won by two points to open up a 12-6 advantage.
Meyer sliced the deficit in half with a 4-1 win at 157 but WPI reeled off four straight wins, including three by fall, to wrap up the victory. Avino closed the day with a fall in 1:32.
Against the Aggies (4-4), Goretsas broke up a 12-0 start, cutting the deficit in half with a 6-minute, 29-second pin at 149.
Emanuel Ajabe responded with a technical fall at 157 and Alec Horan added an 8-0 win to push the lead to 21-6 en route to the 42-6 win.
The Green Terror opens the Centennial Conference schedule at Washington and Lee in a trimatch with Merchant Marine on Saturday. Action begins at 11 a.m.
