Camlin wins heavyweight
BALTIMORE, Md. – Joe Camlin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) won the title at heavyweight to lead McDaniel to a third-place finish at the 2013 Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling championship hosted by Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
The Green Terror finished with 48 points for its best placefinish since finishing third in 2009. Ursinus won the team title with 113 points while the host Blue Jays were second with 98 points. It was the Bears' CC-best 10th crown.
Camlin opened his gold-medal run with a 9-0 win over Johns Hopkins' Joey Tilson before notching a pair of pins to capture the crown. He topped New York University's Anthony Chu in 5:41 before better Ursinus' Robert Scarmuzza in 4:37.
Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) added a second-place showing at 133 as one of five Green Terror wrestlers to place in the top four of their respective weight class.
O'Boyle downed Ray Yaglosky (Johns Hopkins) 5-3 to reach the finals. In the title bout, NYU's Brandon Jones notched a 9-2 win over the freshman.
Logan Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) finished third at 157. He opened his outing with a 9-2 win over Gettysburg's Will Cauffman before being relegated to the consolation bracket after a 9-4 defeat to Christian Salera (Johns Hopkins).
Yox recorded a 58-second pin of Sam Lyscas (Merchant Marine) to reach the third-place bout, where he topped Stevens' Leo Wortman, 5-0.
Moore was pinned in the first period of his opening bout before notching a 13-0 win over ZacRichey (Washington and Lee) and a 2-1 win over Conn Bass (Stevens) to reach the third-place bout, where he fell to Thomas Walker (Merchant Marine) for the second time on the day, 2-0.
Cross opened with a 5-3 win over Ursinus' Michael Williams before Zach Thomson notched a 2-minute, 38-second fall en route to the title. Cross added a 6-2 in over Zachary Bass (Stevens) in the consolation bracket before falling to Williams, 3-2.
Trey Mitchell (Lewes, Del./Caesar Rodney) opened his day with a 30-second pin of Muhlenberg's Chayoot Chengsupanimit before being pinned twice at 141.
Scott Forrester (Manchester, N.J./Manchester) dropped his first match of the day at 184 by a 14-5 margin before notching a pin with six seconds remaining in the second period of his match with Morgan Moskal (Washington and Lee). His day ended with a 6-1 loss to Patrick Sheehan (NYU).
At 197, Ricky Tisinger (Edinburg, Va./Stonewall Jackson) went 1-2, notching an 8-1 win over the Generals' Connor Smithson in his first bout of the consolation bracket.
The Green Terror returns to action at the NCAA Division III East Regional hosted by Gettysburg on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
