Lowe wins 157 crown

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Brent Lowe (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) led eight placefinishers with a championship at 157 to lead McDaniel at the Ursinus Fall Brawl in wrestling action on Saturday.

Lowe opened his day with a 1-minute, 42-second pin before two of his other three victories came by first-period technical fall. Lowe notched a 15-0 win at the end of the first period to advance to the semifinals, where he recorded a 4-2 win over Elizabethtown's Jordan Moser. In the title tilt, Lowe downed Matt Cartusciello (Hunter) 18-3 in just 2:21.

Sean McGarry (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) finished third at 165, notching two pins along the way. He opened his day with a bye before winning 4-2 over College of New Jersey's Michael Kiley. He added a 3-minute, 13-second pin before falling to eventual champions Zach Thomson (Gettysburg), 9-0.

In the consolation bracket, McGarry pinned Peter Kinsella (TCNJ) in 3:23 and downed Zach Zotollo (TCNJ) 3-1 in the third-place bout.

Mike Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.), Logan Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) and Mike Meekins (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) finished fourth at their respective weight classes.

Tancredi (133) recorded two pins and a major decision en route to a4-2 day. His day opened with a 5-4 win over Connor Gregory (Ursinus) before falling to the consolation bracket after a 5-0 loss to West Chester's Kyle Liberato.

In the consolation bracket, Tancredi notched a 16-4 win and 1-minute, 49-second fall before downing his teammate Sean Ensign (Westminster, Md./Westminster) 11-3 to advance to the third-place bout, where he fell 5-4 to Gregory.

Yox (149) opened with a 9-0 win over Kody Rittenbaugh (Elizabethtown) before falling to the consolation bracket with an 8-4 defeat.

Yox sandwiched wins of 9-5 and 4-3 around a 2-minute, 36-second fall to advance to the third-place match before bowing out with a medical forfeit.

Meekins (174) dropped his first match before winning three times to work his way back to the third-place bout. In the consolation bracket, he recorded wins by 3-2 and 5-2 margins before being awarded a medical forfeit. In the third-place match, he lost 18-3 to Andrew McHugh (Hunter).

Ensign recorded a 9-0 win over Ben Hessel (West Chester) and 3-0 victory over Anthony Brown (Alfred) before falling to Alex Blank (Ursinus), 11-5. Ensign was awarded a medical forfeit to finish fifth

Mason Goretsas (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) opened his quest at 149 with a 16-3 victory before falling to RJ Paquette (Hunter), 2-1.

In the consolation bracket, Goretsas recorded a first-period fall and 6-5 win over Rittenbaugh. He dropped the fifth-place bout with a 5-3 loss to Nate Snyder (West Chester) before finishing sixth after bowing out with a medical forfeit.

Sule Marquez-Monsanto (New York,N.Y./The Lawrenceville School) fell 14-2 and 1-0 at 197 but recorded a 5-2 victory over Alfred's Dondrey Sharrock to finish fifth.


The Green Terror returns to action at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah on Dec. 2-3. Action begins at 12 p.m. on Friday.
