No. 15 York wins eight straight matches to down McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Alex Martocello notched a 3-minute, 13-second technical fall to secure the match and lead No. 15 York (Pa.) to a 28-9 victory over McDaniel in non-conference wrestling action on Friday.

Earl Eppard (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) and Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) won at each end of the match to pace the Green Terror (6-12), who wrapped up its dual meet schedule with the fourth top-15 opponent of the season.

The Spartans (21-5-1) recorded victories in eight consecutive bouts to overcome a 3-0 deficit early in the match for their 21st win of the season.

After single escapes by Mike Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.) and Victor Signorelli provided the only points of regulation at 141, Signorelli broke the deadlock in both the bout and match with a takedown 44 seconds into the first one-minute, sudden-victory period.

Chris Gugliotti (149) stretched the lead to 10-3 with a 14-2 win before Albert Gleichauf (157) made it a 10-point advantage, using a reversal in the final 30 seconds of the third period to take an 8-7 victory.

Trent Bond made it five straight York victories, taking a 10-2 major decision at 165 before Matt Heisey won 6-0 at 174.

A takedown and near fall 13 seconds into the second period gave Martocello his technical fall 18-2 to secure the match.

George Saliba took the 197 match 7-3 before Glotfelty wrapped up the night with a forfeit to improve to 29-1 on the season.

A escape each from Eppard and Jarrid Hartman proved the only points of regulation, Hartman registered an escape with two seconds remaining in the first half of the first tiebreaker period before Eppard was awarded a penalty point after a second stall warning in the waning seconds of the second half of the tiebreaker period.

Starting from the neutral position, Eppard earned a takedown 18 seconds into the second sudden-victory period to stake McDaniel to a 3-0 lead.

Sergio Grigorian evened the match at 3-all with a 7-1 victory at 133.

McDaniel returns to action at the Centennial Conference championionship hosted by Washington and Lee on Saturday, Feb. 26. Action begins at 11 a.m.
