Senior heavyweight reaches 100 wins to pace squad in fifth-place finish

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) added five more wins to his total to eclipse 100 for his career and lead McDaniel to a fifth-place finish at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah in wrestling action on Friday and Saturday.

With his first win of the tournament – a 13-4 major decision victory over Messiah's Ethan Covalt – the senior heavyweight notched the 100th win of his career to become just the second wrestler in program history to reach triple digits in the win column. With a 104-20 career mark, Glotfelty now needs just eight more wins to match Charlie Conaway's program-record 112 wins.

As a team, the Green Terror recorded 84 points to finish tied with Lycoming. Wilkes won the 13-team, two-day event with 162.5 points. Mount Union finished second (147) while Messiah (136.5) and Sprinfield (127) rounded out the top four.

After Glotfelty's major-decision win in his opening bout, the top seed won the weight class with three first-period pins in his other four matches. In the title bout, Glotfelty downed No. 2-seeded Ron Fusco (Springfield) in 58 seconds.

Three other McDaniel wrestlers finished in the top eight of their weight classes. At 133, Tom Goretsas (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished third while Will Yeo (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) finished sixth at 197 and Earl Eppard (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) was seventh at 125.

Goretsas, the No. 2 seed, opened with a pin in 2:14 before adding a 9-3 and 10-2 win to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinal bout, Mount Union's Riki Reynolds, the No. 3 seeed, pinned Goretsas in 2:08.

In the consolation bracket, Goretsas was awarded a forfeit win to advance to the third-place match, where he won, 10-3.

The fifth-seeded Yeo opened with an 11-3 major-decision win and first-period fall before dropping to the consolation bracket with an 8-4 loss to No. 4 Russel Korbul (Lycoming) in the quarterfinals. Yeo notched a 16-0 technical fall and 13-4 major-decision victory before falling to the fifth-place bout with a 5-2 setback to Lycoming's Kyle Crouthamel, the No. 7 seed. He dropped a 6-4 decision there to finish sixth.

Eppard, the No. 8 seed, won his first bout 5-3 before falling to top-seeded Kenneth Francis, 6-1. Eppard won his first match in the consolation bracket 6-3 before falling, 3-1. In the seventh-place bout, he was victorious 7-4 over Springfield's Tom Casper.

Mike Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.) went 3-2 with a pin and technical fall at 141 but bowed out a bout shy of finishing in the top eight.

Chris Urps (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), Josh Moore (Dover, Del./North Caroline [Md.]) and PJ Farinella (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) all recorded two wins.

McDaniel returns to action at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus on Jan. 8. Action begins at 10 a.m.
