WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel staved off a late Dickinson surge to hold on for a 12-11 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory on Wednesday.
Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) tallied four goals and three assists to lead the Green Terror (8-5, 4-3 CC) to a half-game lead for fourth place in the conference standings with two games to play.
Sydney Stern paced the Red Devils (8-6, 3-3 CC) with three goals and three assists.
Knotted at 7-all after Jennifer Morrissey scored her first goal of the season just 1:52 into the second half, Sam Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) responded 43 seconds later to spark a three-goal burst.
Entrot found Julia Jacobs (Stevensonville, Md./St. Mary's) just 41 seconds after the Barbeito tally for a 9-7 advantage before Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) converted a free-position goal with 19:49 to play for a three-goal edge.
After the teams traded tallies over the next 13 minutes, Carly O'Brien finished a fast-break goal with 5:46 to play to make it a 12-10 game.
Just 1:14 later, Maddy Siebold found Katie Iverson, who turned and fired into the top of the cage to trim the deficit to one.
The Red Devils had one final attempt to force overtime with 20 seconds to play but the shot sailed wide of the cage and the Green Terror forced a turnover after the restart and was able to run out the clock for a key conference win.
Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) and Caroline Clancy traded markers in the game's first 65 seconds before Entrot gave McDaniel a 2-1 edge with 28:04 showing.
Siebold knotted the game once again with 23:15 showing before Entrot found Jacobs and Barbeito 20 seconds apart for a 4-2 lead.
A Stern unassisted tally closed the deficit to one with 13:31 to play before Parcell netted her second of the night just 21 seconds later.
A Barbeito-to-Entrot connection pushed the lead to 6-3 before Iverson and Entrot traded tallies to keep it a three-goal margin with 7:06 to play in the first half.
O'Brien hit both Stern and Clancy in the final 6:05 of the half to close the deficit to 7-6 at the break.
Lauren McCadden (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
