WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will travel to Chestertown, Md., for the first-round game of the 2013 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse championship on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
The fifth-seeded Green Terror (9-7, 5-4 CC) faces the fourth-seeded Shorewomen (12-4, 5-4 CC) with the winner advancing to Saturday's semifinals at Gettysburg.
Gettysburg (16-1, 9-0 CC), ranked No. 5 in the latest IWLCA Division III coaches poll, will host Wednesday's winner in the day's first semifinal to begin at 1 p.m. Franklin & Marshall (13-3, 8-1 CC), ranked seventh in the same poll, will face Haverford (13-4, 7-2 CC) in the day's other semifinal not before 3:30 p.m. or 45 minutes following the conclusion of the day's first semifinal.
The semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship game, which will begin at 1 p.m.
The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on May 8. The NCAA field will be announced on Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
The Green Terror is seeking its first conference title. It is the first tournament appearance for McDaniel since 2009.
In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and Shorewomen, Washington prevailed 13-6 in Westminster last Saturday.
Sophomore Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led McDaniel during the regular season with 55 goals, 15 assists and 70 points. She was also second on the team with 47 draw controls.
Senior Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) led the way with 82 draw controls for the second-highest single-season total in program history. She also eclipsed the CC record for draw controls in a career this season. Messersmith was second on the team with 36 goals, 12 assists and 48 points. Her 46 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers are tops on the team.
