GRANTHAM, Pa. – No. 11 Messiah took an 11-1 lead into halftime before defeating McDaniel 16-4 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) led the Green Terror (1-1) with two goals.
Lizzy Keeney scored five times to pace the Falcons (1-0) in their season opener.
Marybeth Bindel converted a free-position goal just 43 seconds into the game before Parcell knotted the score off a Kerry Campbell (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) assist just 1:36 later.
A Claire Strikeleather tally with 25:15 to play in the first half sparked a 13-0 run for the hosts, however, to put the game away with 19:58 to play in the contest.
Kinney had all five of her goals during the run, including back-to-back markers 1:39 apart to push the lead to 10-1 with 10:06 to play in the first half.
Carly Bajus, who had a goal and two assists, pushed the lead to 11-1 nearly three minutes later.
Samantha Barbeito (Myersville, Md./Middletown) broke up the lengthy stretch, hitting the back of the net with 14:49 to play.
Kiersten McGreer responded 2:34 later before Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) found Parcell to make it a 15-3 game with 6:33 to play.
McGreer and Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) traded markers in the final 4:35 for the final margin.
Messiah finished with a 26-14 edge in shots and 17-5 advantage in draw controls.
Messersmith and Kaylee Hoover (Winter Garden, Fla./West Orange) had five ground balls each. Messersmith added three caused turnovers while Hoover had two.
The Green Terror returns to action at Bridgewater on Saturday, Mar. 9. Game time is 1 p.m.
