WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel closed the game on an 8-3 run to rally from an 11-7 deficit and defeat No. 19 Elizabethtown 15-14 in overtime in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) recorded five goals and an assist to lead the Green Terror (1-0) to a victory in its season opener. Three of the sophomore's goals came during the game-closing run, including the game winner 48 seconds into the extra session.
Emily Butler led the Blue Jays (1-1) with seven points on three goals and four assists.
Trailing 11-7, Katie Timmons (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) converted one of seven McDaniel free-position goals with 17:56 to play in regulation to close the deficit to three.
Mallory Michel (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) followed with a free-position tally of her own two minutes later before Entrot finished one of two Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) assists to trim the margin to one with 13:22 on the clock.
A Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) free-position marker with 12:05 evened the game before Entrot finished a solo run 37 seconds later for the Green Terror's first lead of the game, 12-11.
Becky Porter finished from Gabby Genuario with 9:09 remaining to knot the game at 12-all before the two switched roles 2:19 later for a 13-12 lead.
A Katie Reeb free-position goal stretched the advantage to two with 5:35 remaining in regulation.
With 2:16 showing, Entrot found freshman Samantha Barbeito (Myersville, Md./Middletown) to once again make it a one-goal game.
With 41.2 seconds left, Beaudry hit the back of the net on a free-position attempt to knot the game.
Early in the six-minute overtime, Entrot was awarded a free position and converted. From there, the attack possessed for the majority of the final 5:12 for the win.
Butler and Caitlin Knight staked the Blue Jays to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 4:56 before Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) cut the deficit in half with 22:39 showing.
Butler found Genuario and Reeb over the next six minutes to push the lead to 4-1.
A Beaudry free-position goal and Beaudry-to-Entrot connection pulled the hosts back within one with 14:30 to play.
Back-to-back Butler goals stretched the lead to 6-3 before an Entrot unassisted goal with 5:30 to play returned the deficit to two.
Genuario pushed the lead back to three before Beaudry and Messersmith both tallied unassisted in the final 24 seconds to make it a one-goal game at the break.
Michelle Grosso tallied 19 seconds into the second half and Knight added a solo run nearly two minutes later to push the lead back to three.
A Bopst free-position tally momentarily closed the deficit to two but Porter responded with a free-position goal of her own with 20:09 to play and Knight completed a hat trick 42 seconds later.
In addition to her six points, Entrot added seven draw controls while Messersmith tallied six.
Lily Galzerano (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) made seven saves while allowing just four goals in the final 26:08 of the game between the pipes.
McDaniel finished with a 32-28 advantage in shots, including 3-0 in overtime, and won 20 of the 33 draw controls.
The Green Terror returns to action at No. 10 Messiah on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
