Two earn all-region honors

BALTIMORE, Md. – Two members of the McDaniel women's lacrosse team have been named to the All-Metro Region team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), released on Friday.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) was named to the 16-member first team while Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) was tabbed second team.

Messersmith, a junior midfielder, earned her second all-region selection after being named first-team All-Centennial Conference (CC). Starting all 17 games, she finished second on the team with 40 goals and 60 points. Her 20 assists led the team. She led the team and CC with a program-record 103 draw controls, which ranks second all-time in CC history for a single season. With 206 draw controls for her career, she has the most in program history and sixth most in conference history. She also ranked second on the team with 46 ground balls and was tied for team lead with 24 caused turnovers.

Nichols, a senior defender, earned her second all-region selection after being tabbed first-team All-CC for the second time. Nichols was a first-team All-Metro selection in 2010. As a senior, she led the team with 61 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. She also corralled 37 draw controls and contributed a goal and two assists to the attack.

The Green Terror finished the season at 6-11 overall (3-6 CC).
