Entrot tallies six and two
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel built a 13-6 lead midway through the second half before staving off a furious Muhlenberg rally for a 15-14 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory on Friday.
Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) recorded six goals and two assists to lead the Green Terror (5-7, 2-4 CC), who snapped its four-game skid with the victory.
Molly Davis led the Mules (4-5, 0-5 CC) with five goals, including the last four tallies by her team.
After Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) and Angela Napoletano exchanged unassisted goals in the first 6:49, Parcell converted a free-position shot with 22:26 showing to start a three-goal flurry.
Entrot tallied her first 33 seconds later before finding Katie Timmons (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) for a 4-1 lead with 18:02 remaining.
Kelsey Elmer, who finished with two goals and three assists, finished a Stephanie Umbach assist to momentarily halt the run with 14:39 remaining but Parcell found Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) a minute later to start another three-goal burst.
Entrot finished from Mary Tokolish (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and Parcell completed her hat trick from Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) off the ensuing draw control to stretch the lead to 7-2 with 12:22 to play in the first half.
Umbach put together a natural hat trick over a 6-minute, 10-second span to close the deficit to 7-5 with 3:24 on the clock but Entrot converted a free position with 2:29 showing and Tokolish finished a Parcell feed on the break with 26.1 seconds to stretch the lead to 9-5 at the break.
A Tokolish-to-Entrot connection 2:53 into the second half pushed the lead to 10-5 before an Elmer solo run trimmed the margin back to four 2:32 later.
Entrot had a hand in the next three goals, finding Tokolish with 23:41 to play and then finishing off feeds from Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Watkins nearly five minutes apart to open up a seven-goal advantage with 15:53 remaining.
An Alex Bellini goal 41 seconds later and a Davin unassisted marker with 10:11 to play closed the deficit to 13-8 before Messersmith found the back of the net 36 seconds later.
Goals from Bellini and Umbach pulled Muhlenberg within 14-10 before Davin ripped off three goals in a 1-minute, 29-second span made it a one-goal game with 5:09 showing.
Messersmith pushed the lead back to two with 3:44 to play before Kayleigh Thies hit Davin for the final margin with 1:22 on the clock.
Messersmith won nine draw controls for the Green Terror, who corralled 23 of the 41 in the game. Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) pulled down five while Watkins came up with four. Nichols added four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
