GETTYSBURG, Pa. – No. 4 Gettysburg raced out to an 11-0 halftime lead en route to a 17-3 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory over McDaniel on Wednesday.
Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) scored two times for the Green Terror (4-7, 1-4 CC) in a 1-minute, 18-second span.
Bridget Kenny and Hannah Church led the Bullets (9-1, 5-0 CC) with three goals apiece.
Kenny and Church each finished solo runs in the game's first 2:11 before Kelsey Markiewicz scored her two goals of the game 43 seconds apart to double the advantage with 22:59 to play in the opening half.
Five different Gettysburg players scored goals to stretch the lead to 9-0 with 11:29 to play.
Church completed her hat trick 21 seconds later from Loren Pruitt's second assist of the day.
Kenny completed her hat trick 1:05 later to make it an 11-0 game with 10:03 remaining.
Five goals by five different Bullets in a 12-minute, 24-second span pushed the lead to 16-1 with 10:50 showing.
Messersmith tallied unassisted markers with 6:10 and 4:52 remaining to close the deficit to 16-3 before Julia Shackleton set the final margin with 3:56 on the clock, giving head coach Carol Cantele her 300th career victory – just the seventh women's lacrosse coach across all divisions to reach that milestone.
Messersmith added two caused turnovers and three draw controls while Steph Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) recorded four caused turnovers.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
