Late tally wins it

Skidmore breaks deadlock in final minute to down McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Lindsay Stavola capped her hat trick with 48.9 seconds on the clock to break a 10-all deadlock and propel Skidmore to an 11-10 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over McDaniel on Tuesday.

Stavola added two assists from the Thoroughbreds (2-0), who overcame an 8-4 deficit early in the second half to remain undefeated on the young season. Kimberly Segalas added a team-high four goals.

Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) led the Green Terror (1-4) with four goals of her own and added an assist.

Trailing 8-4, Robin Fetterolf ignited a run of four straight unassisted goals with a tally at the 25:04 that eventually tied the game fewer than 10 minutes later.

Back-to-back markers from Stavola 1 minute, 52-seconds apart pulled the visitors within 8-7 with 16:13 to play before Segalas evened the game 48 seconds later.

Lines reestablished the one-goal edge for McDaniel 50 seconds later before Stavola found Lauren McCarthy to knot the game at 9-all with 13:41 showing.

Exactly four minutes later, Mary Tokolish (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) picked up the ground ball after a missed McDaniel shot and put it in the back of the net for a 10-9 advantage.

Stavola once again found McCarthy with 3:18 to play before Stavola rolled around the cage and hit the back of the net for the game-winner.

Abbie Hamlin won the ensuing draw control and the Thoroughbreds were able to maintain possession for the remainder of the contest.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead just 3:32 into the game before back-to-back tallies from Segales gave Skidmore a 2-1 lead with 21:02 to play in the first half.

Lines and Summer Segalas traded free-position goals nearly two minutes apart before Lines hit Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) to even the game ta 3-all with 15:13 showing.

A Kimberly Segalas free-position tally gave the visitors a 4-3 advantage with 12:53 to play but Messersmtih countered with an unassisted marker to spark a 5-0 run with 10:48 remaining.

A Jurd free-position goal 32 seconds later gave the hosts a one-goal lead before Tokolish found Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) with 8:34 on the clock.

Tallies from Lines in the final eight seconds of the first half and first 2:39 of the second half stretched the lead to 8-4.

Messersmith added five of the Green Terror's 13 draw controls.
