No. 2 Diplomats score first seven en route to 12-5 win at McDaniel

WESMINSTER, Md. – Blake Hargest recorded three goals and three assists to lead No. 2 Franklin & Marshall to a 12-5 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Meredith Lussier added four goals for the Diplomats (6-1, 2-0 CC), who netted the game’s first seven goals en route to the seven-goal victory.

Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) paced the Green Terror (6-3, 0-2 CC) with three goals.

Lussier opened the scoring 4:56 into the game with an unassisted goal.

Back-to-back tallies from Hargest stretched the lead to 3-0 just 11:22 into the game before Maggie Mae Shields sandwiched a free-position goal between two Erin Dunne tallies for a 7-0 lead with 6:00 to play in the first half.

Lines broke up Franklin & Marshall’s 91 minutes, 52 seconds of shutout, finishing a Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) feed with 25.5 seconds to play in the first half.

Lussier stretched the lead back to seven 1:41 into the second half before Stephanie Serbun (Abington, Pa./Abington), Lines and Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) closed the deficit to 8-4 with 10:43 to play.

A Dunne free-position shot snapped the three-goal burst at the 53:15 mark before Lines completed her hat trick 34 seconds later.

Lussier sparked a three-goal flurry at the end of the game that included Hargest just beating the horn to set the final margin.

Brittany Baer (Manchester, Md./Westminster) had her 37-game scoring streak snapped, failing to tally for the first time since the Diplomats held her off the scoreboard two years ago.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
