ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Morgan Koopman (Finksburg, Md./McDonogh) led a furious McDaniel rally on Sunday that came up two shot shy, leading to a second-place finish at the 2012 Centennial Conference (CC) women's golf championship at Hanover Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.
Koopman carded the lowest final-round total in championship history with a 77 on Sunday to finish second as an individual, two strokes behind the Bullets' Kara McNulty. McNulty finished with a 158 after firing a 78 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday. Koopman was five strokes back after an 83 in the first round to finish with a score of 160.
The Green Terror found itself in an 11-stroke hole after the first day, carding a 354 to Gettysburg's then-championship record 343. On Sunday, McDaniel had three rounds of 85 or better to finish with a 339. The Bullets posted a total of 348 to hold off the charge for the second-closest win in tournament history. The two-day score of 691 was 23 strokes better than the previous two-round tournament record. McDaniel finished with a two-day score of 693 – its best at the championship by 21 strokes.
Restrepo posted two round in the 80s to finish third. She carded a round of 88 on Saturday before firing a round of 83 on Sunday for a combined total of 171. McNutt posted a scored of 89 in the first round and a round of 85 in the second round to finish with a 174 and tied for fifth.
Katie Pass (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) registered matching rounds of 94 to finish with a 188 in 11th place.
Liz Moir (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) carded a round of 94 on Saturday and a round of 95 on Sunday to finish with a 189 in 12th place.
