Weiner takes individual title to lead McDaniel to second-place showing
HAMPSTEAD, Md. – Jennie Weiner (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) carded a round of 90 win the 2011 Centennial Conference (CC) women's golf individual title and lead McDaniel to a second-place finish as a team on Sunday.
After Saturday's first round was washed out, the five complete teams took to Piney Branch for an 18-hole shootout on Sunday with the title on the line.
The Green Terror held a 13-stroke advantage on Gettysburg after the No. 4 players were in the clubhouse. Needing Molly Nulty to come in with a score of 95 or worse to retain the title for the third straight year, the team waited for the Bullets' No. 5 player to finish on the par-3 ninth.
The sophomore chipped in from just off the green for a birdie and round of 92, giving Gettysburg a round of 378 and two-shot win over McDaniel's 380.
Weiner earned her third All-CC honor, taking home Player of the Year honors for winning the individual crown, finishing one shot better than teammate Morgan Koopman (Finksburg, Md./McDonogh) and the Bullets' Caroline Nathan.
Kara McNulty and Nulty rounded out the all-conference team with matching scores of 92.
