GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg limited McDaniel to 18 points through the first three quarters in a 55-34 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball win on Wednesday.
Renie Tsomos (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air) recorded six points and four rebounds to lead the Green Terror (12-12, 10-9 CC), who fell into a tie with Ursinus for the fifth spot in the standings with one game to play. The final playoff spot will be determined by up to three of Saturday's results.
Kiera Cesareo scored 16 points to pace the Bullets (22-2, 18-1 CC), who will be the top seed in next week's conference tournament. Emily Gibbons added 15 points and 18 rebounds.
Tied at 2-all, Cesareo hit a 3-pointer with 7:30 to play in the first quarter to spark a 13-2 run. Cesareo capped the run with back-to-back triples for a 15-4 lead with 4:33 remaining.
Melanie Yeomans (Myersville, Md./South Hagerstown) and Kendra Meredith traded baskets in the next 30 seconds to make it a 17-6 game until neither team scored for the next nearly seven minutes.
Gibbons broke up the drought, hitting a layup with 7:21 to play in the second period.
Seven straight Bullet points pushed the lead to 28-10 before Libby Bowles (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) hit two free throws with 31 seconds remaining to make it a 28-12 game at the break.
Gettysburg extended the lead to 35-12 before Tsomos hit a jumper in the lane with 4:15 to play in the third period.
The Bullets extended the lead to 41-18 after the third quarter en route to the 21-point win.
McDaniel concludes the regular season at No. 25 Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
