CHESTERTOWN, Md. – McDaniel used a 17-3 run to turn a 42-41 edge late in the third quarter into a 59-44 early fourth-quarter lead en route to a 74-61 victory at Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Thursday.

Melanie Yeomans (Myersville, Md./South Hagerstown) led the Green Terror (2-4, 1-2 CC) to its first conference win of the season with a career-best 21 points. Liv Storer (Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic College) added 19 points.

Cassidy Quattro paced the Shorewomen (2-2, 1-1 CC) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

After a back-and-forth first five minutes of the third quarter, Storer converted a three-point play to give McDaniel a 42-39 lead with 5:21 on the clock.

A minute and a half later, Katherine Moore hit two free throws to cut the deficit to one. However, a Yeomans layup with 2:57 showing sparked the game-clinching run.

Yeomans and Storer combined for 10 straight points before Hannah Zajac (Houston, Texas/Clear Creek) hit a 25-footer from the right wing as the horn sounded to stretch the lead to 55-44 entering the final period.

The run continued into the first 43 seconds of the quarter with four straight points from Yeomans before a Caitlyn Clark jumper started a 7-0 burst that once against trimmed the margin to single digits with 6:08 to play.

Within the next 69 seconds, the Green Terror pushed the lead back out to 12 en route to the 13-point win.

Tied at 2-all early, four points from Renie Tsomos (Forest Hill, Md./Bel Air) keyed a run of six straight McDaniel points to open up an 8-2 lead with 6:50 to play in the opening period.

The lead fluttered between four and nine points until two Kristi Kozolowski free throws and a Taylor Samuels jumper closed the deficit to 23-22 with 3:20 remaining in the second quarter.

A Halle Burgess (Ashton, Md./Good Counsel) 3-pointer and two Libby Bowles (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) free throws extended the lead to six en route to a 28-24 halftime margin.

Tsomos added eight points and four assists to go with a career-best five steals. Yeomans pilfered four steals as part of a defense that forced 29 turnovers.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
