Perez's 14 leads way to win
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Trailing 10-6, McDaniel put together a 16-0 run to take control of the first half in a 52-43 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory over Dickinson on Tuesday.
Mary Martin paced the Red Devils (1-5, 0-4 CC) with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Perez netted eight points during the meandering run, including canning her 100th career 3-pointer that gave McDaniel an 11-10 lead with 7:19 to play in the first half.
Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) capped the stretch with two free throws at the 2:52 mark.
Liz Schultz snapped an 8-minute, 9-second scoring drought, hitting a layup 15 seconds later to make it a 22-12 game.
Lauren Ballenger (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) converted a putback layup in the final 15 seconds of the first half to make it a 28-17 game at the break.
The Green Terror methodically stretched the lead back out to 16 on a Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) 3-pointer with 12:37 showing in the second half.
Two Martin free throws sparked a 7-0 burst that closed the deficit to 39-30 with 10:43 on the clock.
Allie Eader (Ijamsville, Md./Linganore) stretched the lead back to 44-32 with a triple at the 6:10 mark before the Red Devils netted nine of the game's next 13 points, closing to within five on a Martin three-point play 57.8 seconds remaining.
Wingerd and Nichols, however, each went 2-for-2 from the line in the final 22 seconds to set the final margin.
Nichols added 11 points, reaching double figures for the second straight game, to go with six rebounds and three steals.
Dais added four assists while Wingerd had three.
McDaniel returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m.
